Today I leave beautiful Los Angeles to fly back home to Columbus. I had a wonderful visit. Los Angeles is a vacationer's paradise, with beaches, mountains, Hollywood, Venice, the canals, Santa Monica, Disneyland, movie studios, fun things, cool things, cultural things, interesting things to see and do. Hundreds of them. But I didn't see or do any of them. This was my Los Angeles ...and probably will be for a few years to come. For me Los Angeles was a loop from my daughter's house to the park to Ralph's, the LA Kroger's affiliate, then home again. Still, the trip was not without its memorable sights. Like Sienna, her purse over her arm, pushing her book in her baby carriage: Then pushing the purse in the baby carriage: Then dragging the Target bag all around the house: Then helping Grandpa with the dishes: Or when I was attempting with much difficulty to shake down a lemon from the tree in the backyard with an orange picker... ... and Makaila kept cheering me on, telling me, "C'mon, Grammie, you can do it, I know you can!" Then clapping her hands for me when I finally succeeded and telling me, "You did it! You did great!" Or the time that I was shopping with Makaila at Ralph's and as we passed through the frozen food section she said, with a wide-eyed, beaming smile, "Grammie, I'm wishing for ice cream!" And though I was wishing I could buy her some ice cream, I couldn't, sadly,as her parents are strict about healthy eating. However, a little later as we passed a balloon display she pointed to a Hello Kitty balloon on a stick and said, "Grammie, now I'm wishing for that Hello Kitty balloon!" So, happily, I was able to grant her that wish . There was our "Girls Nite Out" dinner last night when Maria and I attempted to go out to California Pizza Kitchen with Makaila and Sienna in tow. We managed, but the aftermath wasn't pretty: I gave the waitress a big tip.
Now I'm sitting in the LA airport, minutes away from boarding, already missing my Los Angeles and wishing it were closer to home.
