...Continued from yesterday: Our flight from Hawaii arrived at Los Angeles International on Sunday, April 23 at 5 am L.A. time, 2 am Hawaii time. Subsequently I slept away most of Sunday, April 23 (unlike Tom, who soldiered on through the day), thanks to the kind accommodation of my daughter and son-in-law, who took the kids out for a mostly day-long outing. However after I woke up and the kids returned from their outing there was still time to open presents from Hawaii, including some paper dolls I'd found in Honolulu. I learned that paper dolls, though a well-loved past-time for girls of my generation, were an entirely new, but nonetheless quite engaging, concept for my grand daughters.
...and for her to make a collage from pictures she cut out of the local newspapers I brought her back from Hawaii, ...before we left for dinner at our new favorite local eatery, a place called Scotty's, in Hermosa Beach, which was quite lively on that lovely Sunday evening.
The food was great, as it had been on our first visit (see post from 4/21/2017).
Justin had a veggie burger with the most amazing coleslaw,
After dinner we walked along the strand, ...and the pier, ...from where we took in the panorama of the beach, ...and the sunset,
...before calling it a night. The next morning after dropping our grand daughters off at their school Tom and I had the day to ourselves, which we filled starting off with breakfast at a local mom-and-pop place called Mandy's, ...followed by a visit to - where else? ...to pick up some groceries for dinner. Then we returned home and I headed back to bed in an attempt to sleep off my nagging jet-lag. Later that afternoon we picked up our grand daughters, who, .after a quick stop at the play ground, ...were anxious to get back to their paper dolls, ...after which they helped me fix a special Hawaiian treat for dessert, papaya boats. My grand daughters loved the pretty black papaya seeds and after we scooped them out of the papaya the girls went into the backyard and planted the seeds. Mayhaps someday there will be a papaya tree among the flora and fauna in their yard.
...and the papaya boats, which were a grand success. Early the next morning we said our bittersweet good-byes, and Tom and I joined our fellow travelers at Los Angeles International, Then by day's end we were back home, where our kitty seemed very happy to see us - and smell us- again.
