Right To Life, We Need You Now

     Dear Right To Life,
        It's been three years now since your grand moment, the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Your victory was the result of so much dedication, so much planning, so much organizing, the tireless work of  so many people. And in those early heady days after the Supreme Court handed you your win, what euphoria there must have been among your supporters, what celebrations!
        But all that was three years ago. These days, with your main mission long accomplished, you must be kind of at loose ends; I can't imagine you have nearly enough to do. But it's time for that to change: there's a new mission you're needed for, though in truth, it's just a branching out of what your mission has always been: to grant children the right to life.
      Because the life of every child that you fought for is in danger.  In fact, every day every life of every person in this country is in danger of being destroyed by gun violence.  Mass shootings are a national epidemic, thanks to the easy availability to anyone of  military-style assault rifles that can shoot ten bullets or more per second. Contrary to the National Rifle Association's meaningless little ditty, guns do kill people. 
          But we all know this already, and should we forget it for a while, should we be lulled into a false sense of security, sooner or later some unhinged young guy will take out his anger and/or insanity with an AR-15 on some random gathering of people at any public place you could think of, including, as we were so bitterly reminded last week, children at school or praying in church.

       That's the absolute worst, when the mass shooting victims are children. And so you, who fought so long and hard for a child's right to life, can once again unfurl your banner and now make it your mission to fight for their right to live.  If you launched a new crusade springing from Right to Life - call this crusade to save the lives of children and adults Right to Live -  you already have have the money, the resources, the infrastructure, the strategy, the support, and mostly the power, and now you could use your might  to take on the NRA and the gun-selling lobby that, sadly, control our government.

       You can give power and influence to the gun control movement in a way that no other organization can. Our lawmakers will listen to you again, just as they did before.                           
      Most Americans want more stringent gun control, most Americans want AR-15's banned, and all Americans want an end to the mass shootings that have extinguished too many lives and keep us living in fear for ourselves and our loved ones, especially our children. We're sick to death of lawmakers saying there's nothing they can do. And so a Right To Live movement would have the support of a large majority of Americans.
       Even those Americans who might not have supported the anti-abortion goal of Right To Life would join up to be part of the life-saving goal of Right to Live. 
​         Right to Life, you can rise up again in a new Right to Live movement.   
         And I would be the first to join you.
