​The Cozy Corner, The Concrete Beach, And Other Things Chicago 

       My daughter and her husband, aka The Biking Vikings (as christened by me),

​...came up with a plan to ride their bikes 90 miles in one day from Chicago to Milwaukee,

...see a concert that evening, spend the night in Milwaukee, then the next day, bikes in tow, take the Amtrak train back home to Chicago.    
       The only snag in the plan was that they needed someone willing to transport  their overnight bags for them from Chicago and meet them in Milwaukee. Who might be willing to do that?
​         Why, Mom and Dad, of course.

      And so, having accepted our Mission Altogether Possible, on Friday, August 28, Tom and I hopped a plane from Columbus to Chicago O'Hare, where we found ourselves navigating our way through a sea of travelers.

       From the airport we caught a train,

...to the California stop in Logan Square,

...where we met up with our daughter.
          We then headed across the street to our favorite Chicago breakfast eatery, the Cozy Corner, where the ambience is indeed cozy,

...and the food so good.

       After breakfast we walked several blocks through Logan Square,

...to our daughter's house, which is also quite a cozy corner,

...with a lush urban garden,

...a nice view across the alley,

...and a homey interior.

       After we'd settled our luggage and paid our respect to the resident kitties, Rosie, 

...and Frank,

...we decided, it being such a nice day, to hop a bus to the city,

...from where we walked to the lakefront.

       We arrived at an area known as The Concrete Beach (as opposed to the sand beach, of which there is also one), from which one can enter the water for swimming.

     We, however, opted to sit on some concrete bleachers,       

...which doubled as chess boards,

...and take in the scenery.

    After a while we walked back to the bus stop,

...and headed for home.
      That evening we walked with our son-in-law half a mile to Bucktown Pizza,

...where the pizza is yummy,

...and the decor engaging.

       We then walked back home again to get ready for the next day's trip.
