St. Jean-Pied-de-Port, France, where our journey along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela will begin. In a week and two days from today Tom and I will be leaving for Spain to once again walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, the ancient Way that pilgrims from all over the world have been walking for over 1200 years. Though there are dozens of different Camino routes starting from various points around Europe and all leading to the destination of the town of Santiago in Spain, we will be following the most commonly walked route, the Camino Frances, the 490.7 -mile route that begins in St. Jean Pied-de-Port in France and ends in Santiago. It's common for pilgrims to continue on past Santiago to the sea, however our journey will end in Santiago. God willing. And, on the subject of endings, this will be the last "Ailantha" post until I return from the Camino. However, starting today I'll be posting on a new website, "...And Lighten Your Pack", a chronicle of our trip starting with our pre-Camino preparations. So if anyone's interested, you can check out at www.andlightenyourpack.com. It should be up and running now. Oh, and if anybody's also interested, you can check out the prequel, "Tighten Your Boots," my blog of our first Camino pilgrimage two years ago.

Thanks, Romaine! I'm bringing a small pad computer this time so hopefully it'll be a little easier to write!
