The Golf Depot

      Last week one of the Panera Posse members was a telling us about a little hidden gem of a Gahanna restaurant she'd discovered at a place called The Golf Depot.  None of us had heard of this place but decided that we all wanted to check it  out.

     So we made a date to once again play hooky from our usual Wednesday morning meeting place,

...and yesterday met up instead at The Golf Depot, a public golf course and driving range - out Morrison Road to Science Boulevard, for all you Gahanna folk -

...inside the pro shop of which,

...are a couple of cute restaurants, Barry's Pub and Barry's Grill.
      In truth I'm not sure which one we sat down in, the Pub or the Grill,  but it was a cute, rustic little room done in a train-station motif,

...with a lovely outdoor patio,

...offering a view of the Columbus skyline off in the distance.

​     However, as the day was kind of cool and breezy we opted to eat inside.

      The menus are on a pad like a golf score pad.  (Or so I assume that's what it is since I've never played golf).

      Each person tears off a sheet,

...then fills in their name and their choices with the sharpie provided for that purpose.

     Then you take your menu to the counter and hand it to the oh, so friendly wait staff person,

...who will soon re-appear at your table to deliver your food.
    Among us we ordered several dishes to share:

     The Chicken BLT Wrap,

...an order of waffle fries to share - these were the best waffle fries I've ever had.  It was not only the flavor but the perfection of the crispness factor that made them so good.

     We also had fantastic hummus with pita.  The extra-thick hummus was made on the premises and the pita was slightly deep-fried, giving it a crispy consistency.  All but the lone pita purist among us loved the fried pitas (though we did go through the requisite moaning over the extra calories and later ordered some veggies to dip in the hummus along with the pitas to thus ease our consciences).

     We also tried the some marinara sauce with the pitas, which worked pretty well. 

     I had wanted to try the pretzels stix in beer cheese sauce, too, but they were all out.  ( I will try again for the pretzels next time).
​     The drinks were self-serve, which is actually my personal preference because  1)  you don't have to wait for the server to happen by for a refill, and 2) it gives you a chance to get up a stretch your legs and move around for a minute.

     We all enjoyed the food at Barry's Pub (or Grill).
     But then maybe everything tastes extra-good when it's seasoned with friendship.
